• THE ORACLE
Literary / Fine Arts Magazine of Bremen High School

The Oracle, Bremen's literary / fine arts magazine, is an annual publication of outstanding creative writing and artwork by the students of BHS. Creative writing includes poetry, short stories, essays, rap and song lyrics. Artwork includes drawings, paintings, collage, sculpture, photography, and digital imagery. There is no limit to how many works can be submitted. Submission is often encouraged by English, Art, and Language classes - some even offer EXTRA CREDIT! Besides this, having a work published is great to put on a job resume or a college or scholarship application! As an incentive, prizes are also rewarded for those chosen having the best work in the categories of writing and artwork!

What is the club about? As a club, we are all about publishing the creative works of our student body whether it is poetry, short stories, essays, paintings, drawings, prints, photography or creative digital works.

Who can join? Anyone can join! You don't have to submit creative work to be in the club. You might be someone who's into desktop publishing or selecting the works that you feel are the best. A lot of students on Oracle do submit work too, just because they happen to be creative themselves!

When does the club meet? We meet on Tuesdays or Fridays once a week throughout the school year in the IMC right after school.

How does the club function? In the beginning of the school year, we are all about encouraging and soliciting creative submissions from the student body. Once we get submissions, we vote anonymously on them, as to whether or not we should publish them. In the spring, we start designing our pages for the magazine. Finally, we publish the Literary / Fine Arts Magazine known as THE ORACLE!!

What are members expected to do? Advertise the magazine, encourage and solicit material for it, vote on all submissions, design the layout, print and assemble the pages, punch and bind the copies, sell the magazines, ... oh, and host two Open Mics, one in the winter and one in the spring.

What type of students would you motiviate to join this club? Any and all!

Any special events, trips, or programs coming up that will take place during the school year? The winter Open Mic will take place in December and the spring Open Mic night will take place in, May coinciding with the Senior Art Show. We also have an SSC Lit. Mag. Conference in April.
